This project involved restoring and protecting the exterior of a log cabin that had begun to show wear from sun, wind, and changing seasons. The cabin’s logs had areas of fading, peeling finish, and exposed wood that needed attention. All surfaces were cleaned, scraped, and sanded to remove loose material and prepare the logs for new finish. Windows and trim were masked to keep the work clean and controlled.
A high quality log home stain and sealant was applied to bring back the rich color of the wood and to protect the cabin from moisture and UV damage. Special attention was given to worn spots and end grain areas which are more vulnerable to the elements. Once the finish cured, the exterior had a renewed look with deeper color, improved consistency, and a strong protective barrier that will help the cabin stand up to the climate of southern Minnesota.
This project shows how proper resurfacing and wood treatment can extend the life of a log structure and bring its natural beauty back to the front.
